ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday said that overseas Pakistanis are the true ambassadors of country and have significantly contributed to improve the image of Pakistan. He was talking to British Member of Parliament, Mohammad Sarwar who called on him here at the PM House this afternoon. The Prime Minister said Pakistan regards its expatriate community as an asset.
He particularly mentioned the efforts made by the Pakistani Diaspora in Britain in mobilizing the government and people of Great Britain who provided assistance for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the areas affected by 2005 earthquake.
The Prime Minister said that overseas Pakistanis generously remit their earnings to Pakistan and added that he has no doubt that they will come forward to benefit from the growing investment opportunities in Pakistan.
He said for the first time in the country’s history, Pakistani parliament is completing its term and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its allies are geared to contest the next general elections on the basis of their track record of reforms, economic growth and good governance.
The Prime Minister said after achieving economic stability, the government is now focusing more on the social sector and allocations for health, education and social services have been increased manifolds.
He said the bonds between Pakistanis living all over the world are strengthening and this would be a source of strength for the Muslim Ummah.
The Prime Minister appreciated the multifaceted relationship enjoyed by Pakistan and the UK and the role played by British Pakistanis to further expand this relationship.
Mohammad Sarwar praised the strengthening of democracy as well as freedom enjoyed by the print and electronic media in Pakistan.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Tariq Azeem, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Commander (Retd) Khalil ur Rahman and Advisor to Prime Minister, Rana Tariq Javed also attended the meeting.
