PENSION - AN INTRODUCTION
According to conservative estimates, there are around four (04) million Overseas Pakistanis all over the world. Majority of them, especially those working in the Middle East, belong to informal sector and do not enjoy any social security cover either in the country of employment or at home. The need for such a cover is greatly felt in old age or serious disability or at death of a wage earner and because of the following:
• Uncertain period of stay abroad
• Variation in Income level
• Advancing age and declining health
• No worthwhile investments opportunities available with long term benefits
• Lack of expertise and insufficient funds for starting business on return to Pakistan
• Lack of availability of suitable jobs
In order to meet future needs, OPF launched a Pension Scheme for Overseas Pakistanis. The scheme is managed by the Overseas Pakistanis Pension Trust (Regd.), a subsidiary of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, Ministry of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis, Government of Pakistan
