Overseas Pakistanis Ministry launches anti-HIV/AIDS campaign

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistani has started a campaign to create awareness among labourers about HIV/AIDS.

The Directorate of Workers Education (DWE) of the ministry will educate workers about modes of HIV transmission, vulnerable conditions, diagnoses, symptoms and signs, disease control and prevention, stigma and discrimination, said an official Saturday.

He said the ministry would arrange workshops for senior doctors of social security institutions, trade unions leaders, workers federations, employers, principal of the technical training centres and truck drivers to educate them about the disease.

The official said the International Labour Organisation, UNAIDS, World Health Organisation, National Aids Control Programme, Pakistan National AIDS Consortium, World Population Foundation would assist in the project. The ministry also decided to set up more vocational and technical institutes to train unskilled manpower in the country, he added.
